About

History of Camp Fires AIKD®

JOY originated with letter writing for Camp Fire's Absolutely Incredible Kid Day®. Camp Fire (https://campfire.org/) is a nonprofit youth organization founded in 1910 that is focused on building self-esteem, character development, leadership skills, and social responsibility. Camp Fire started Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® (https://campfire.org/absolutely-incredible-kid-day/) as a letter-writing campaign in 1997 where adults wrote supportive letters to the children in their lives. Every year, on the third Thursday of March, thousands of adults now send notes, emails, texts, and/or videos to encourage and inspire young people across the country.

Jamboree for Outstanding Youngsters

Alpha Phi Omega at Colorado School of Mines first got involved with Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® in 2008 with letter writing, and then came up with the idea to turn it into a fun kids carnival to show our appreciation for kids everywhere!

Alpha Phi Omega has since integrated educational and recreational booths, games, and other activities for children. While encouraging participation in AIKD® is still part of JOY, the event has expanded well beyond this and every year JOY becomes bigger and better!

Alpha Phi Omega--Mu Pi Chapter

Alpha Phi Omega is the single most represented intercollegiate service organization in the United States with active chapters on over 375 college campuses. It was founded in 1925 and is based on the principles of leadership, friendship, and service.

At the Colorado School of Mines, Alpha Phi Omega's Mu Pi Chapter builds friendships over leadership and service. We pride ourselves in volunteering throughout the Denver area and maintaining a strong presence on campus!
